Gerald G. Boyce Signed Mixed Media on Canvas Painting and Gold Leaf Collage

A mixed media on canvas painting by the American artist Gerald G. Boyce (1925-1999). A floral arrangement consisting of collaged gold leaf is displayed next to three lemons and stands on a checkered design in a this still life painting. Initialed "GB" to the verso, the painting is displayed in a brown and white wooden frame. The verso of the painting also has a note on the back that reads “For Mary Masters”.

Born in Embarrass, Wisconsin, Boyce graduated with an undergraduate Science degree from Wisconsin State University in 1949 and a Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of Iowa in 1950. He later completed postgraduate degrees from Indiana University, the University of Illinois, Oxford University, and the Americano Guatemalteco Instituto in Guatemala. Boyce had an extensive teaching career, mostly as the chair of the Art Department, as well as an art history professor, at the University of Indianapolis. He also taught at Fresno State College, St. John's University, Indiana University, and Wabash College. He exhibited his own art extensively and his works have been included at exhibitions at The Museum of Modern Art in New York, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington D.C., the Chicago Art Institute, the Los Angeles Art Museum, as well as many other museums, galleries, and universities.

13” x 15.25”. x 1.75” (frame); 11.75” x 14” (canvas).

Condition notes:

Scratches and discoloration to the frame. Some flaking to the gold leaf. There is a spot to the lower center edge of the canvas that has a dimple poking outward from something pressing against the canvas. Other age appropriate wear.
