A lithograph print by the American artist Peter Kitchell (born 1950). Titled Red Plowed Under, this abstract work depicts colorful biomorphic shapes creating an almost landscape-like composition. Signed, titled, and numbered 214/300 lower left, the print is displayed in a wooden frame and mounted on a linen-lined backer.
Born in Cambridge, Massachusetts, Kitchell was the son of two architects and was introduced to art-making at a very young age. He studied printmaking at the Art Institute of San Francisco and continued his education at the College of Arts and Crafts in Oakland. In the 1960s, Kitchell studied with Rolf Penn, a former student of the Bauhaus school and a student of Kandinsky and Klee. During the late 60s and early 70s, he traveled through North and Central Africa, drawing and painting the people he saw around him.
