A limited edition digital print by the contemporary Brazilian artist Artur Silva (born 1976). Titled Empirical Demise, this work is an amalgamation of pop culture, including a man dressed as a Greco-Roman solider wearing a dollar sign necklace, an Eames lounge chair and ottoman, Nike tennis shoes, lipstick, foil-wrapped burritos, and much more. The print is signed, titled, and numbered 03/10 near the lower edge.
Artur Silva received his BFA from the Guignard School of Art in Brazil. In 1996, he moved to the United States, staying in New York briefly and then moving to Indianapolis. He attended the California Institute of the Arts for his MFA before returning to Indianapolis. Silva's first studio in Indianapolis was at the Harrison Center. Today, Silva remains involved in the Indianapolis art scene, most recently creating a documentary of the painting of the Black Lives Matter mural on Indiana Avenue.
