A soft painting tapestry by the Argentinian-Israeli artist Calman Shemi (born 1939). Titled Escape Through a Side Door #8, this work uses felted material in bright colors to create layers of shapes with lines and dashes intersecting the background designs. The work is signed to the lower left and is also signed and titled to the verso. A fabric sleeve is attached to the verso for a display rod.
Sculpture and painter Calman Shemi was born in Mendoza, Argentina, and studied under German-Israeli sculptor Rudi Lehmann. Shemi's artworks have been on display in over seventy solo exhibitions nationally and internationally in the last two decades.
