Harry Hilson Signed “Homage to Black Hawk” Abstract Mixed Media Painting


A 1980s abstract mixed media painting by American artist Harry Hilson (1935-2004) titled, Homage to Black Hawk. Composed of gouache and colored pencil on paper, abstract lines in vibrant colors illustrate biomorphic faces on a predominately gray and purple ground in this abstract work. The painting is signed “Hilson” to the lower right corner and titled “Homage to Black Hawk” on the bottom.

Harry Hilson was active from the 1950s-2000. He created a variety of works, including oil paintings, ink drawings, wool tapestries, and more. His studios could be found in New York, Los Angeles, and Aspen.
