A 1960s abstract oil on canvas painting by American artist Michael Baum (1933-2021). The moody painting depicts layers of horizontal color blended and dripping into an abstract design. Applied impasto create the visual of bright orange gashes within the black ground. The painting is unsigned and displayed in a black wooden frame.
Lifelong artist and craftsman, Michael Baum was originally from New York and exhibited widely in the 1960s. Baum attended the University of Georgia and later art school in New York where he met his future artist wife, Reiko Sakagami. Baum opened a framing company before becoming the owner and horse breeder of Man O' War Farm in Lexington, KY, where he lived out his life.
