Robert Ray Signed 1974 “Hodaka” Limited Edition Abstract Aquatint


A 1974 aquatint titled, Hodaka, American artist Robert C. Ray (1926-2020). The print depicts an abstract lounging nude male figure depicted in monochromatic green. Displayed behind white mat in a black metal frame, the aquatint is titled, numbered “1/6”, signed, and dated along the bottom edge. 

Born in Elwood, Indiana, Ray attended the John Herron Art School in Indianapolis. After spending time abroad in Spain and Italy in 1953, he studied under Hans Hoffman in Provincetown, Massachusetts at Hoffman's School of Fine Art. Ray was also a writer and poet with several published books. In addition to being an artist, Ray also ran an interior decorating business in Indianapolis.
