Dennis Loy 1970 Signed “Canonical Tongue" Abstraction #3” Wall Assemblage

A 1970 signed abstract wall assemblage by the American artist Dennis Loy (1939-2012). Signed "Loy '70" to the largest piece, this assemblage is composed five pieces of plywood cutout into various shapes. Painted in a whimsical array of colors and patterns, the assemblage features a large central piece with four additional smaller pieces. A signed and dated concept drawing for the assemblage with title is attached to the verso of the largest piece.

 

Measurements:

59" x 48" x 1" (largest piece); 10 x 13" x 1" (bean-shaped piece); 15" x 10" x 1" (splatter-shaped piece); 5" x 5" x 1" (larger yellow circle); 4" x 4" x 1" (smaller yellow circle).

Condition notes:

Signs of wear present. Heavy scratches and scuffs present. Some cracks present to the edges of the wood. One corner of the large piece chipped off. Other chips to the paint and wood. Discoloration present. The back wood pieces are somewhat loose.
