Dino Martens Murano Italian Mezze Filigrana Glass Table Lamp
$498.00
A Murano glass table lamp designed by Italian artist Dino Martens (1894-1970) for Aureliano Toso. The swirling purple and white striped design is accented with shimmery gold-tones. The body of lamp is made with the mezze filigrana technique, a traditional glass blowing process that fuses thin, clear glass rods together with lattimo ("milky") glass at the center. The entire lamp sits on a black wooden base and has brass-tone metal elements.
Dino Martens was an Italian painter and glass artist that studied at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Venezia. During the 1920s and 30s, Martens exhibited at the Venice Biennale before serving for the Italian military in the Italo-Ethiopian War. Following his return, Martens became the artistic director of Aureliano Toso shortly thereafter.
