A set of brass and iron fireplace tools designed by Donald Deskey (1894-1989) for Bennett. This set features a fireplace poker, shovel, and broom, with brass handles. The underside of the metal base is marked.
Donald Deskey is remembered as a pioneer is Modernist design. After studying architecture at the University of California, Deskey followed a career path in art and design. He began working for the Manhattan based department store Franklin Simon designing window displays. This led to him winning a competition to design the Radio City Music Hall interior. In the 1940s, Deskey started his own design firm, Donald Deskey Associates, who would produce iconic designs such as the Crest toothpaste packaging and the Tide bullseye logo.
