A Platform Bench designed by American designer George Nelson (1908-1986) for Herman Miller. The two-section finger-jointed slat bench features a natural wood finish and rests upon ebonized wood legs. The maker's label is affixed to the underside. This is a modern production of the classic design.
The American designer George Nelson has often been called the designer of modern design. Born in Connecticut in 1908 and later studying architecture at Yale Nelson became one of the most prolific designers of his day. His astounding career lasted for 50 years and during this time he achieved the role of lead designer for the 1959 American National Exhibition in Moscow among other great accomplishments.
