Gina Gray Signed Abstract Monotype Print

An abstract monotype by the American artist Gina Gray (1954-2014). This vibrant work depicts a red figure holding a flute and standing on a crescent shape below. A black bird with star and moon design and wings outstretched rises above the figure. Signed to the lower right, the print is also marked "monotype" to the lower left. The work is unframed.

Born in Pawhuska, Oklahoma, Gray was an Osage artist and well know Native American contemporary artist. While in high school, she participated in the occupation of Wounded Knee and was eventually smuggled out before it ended. After returning from the occupation, she studied at the Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe and later studied at the California Institute of the Arts. Her works have been exhibited at numerous museums and galleries including the Heard Museum in Phoenix, the Institute of American Indian Art, the Wheelwright Museum in Santa Fe, and the Smithsonian Museum of the American Indian in Washington D.C.
