A 1970s abstract acrylic on canvas painting by the American artist Halim Scott (1925-1997). This painting features three black lines arranged in the shape of an "N" against the backdrop of red, blue, green, and yellow stripes of various sizes. Unframed, this piece is signed to the verso.
Robert William "Halim" Scott was born in New York City in 1925, where he grew up and attended the High School of Music and Art in Manhattan. Following his graduation, Scott worked at the J. Walter Advertising Agency before leaving to volunteer for the U.S. Navy during WWII. Following his time in the Navy, he returned to New York to study at the Art Students League, training under the figure painter Robert Brackman. He also attended the Heatherly School of Fine Art in England as well as the California School of Fine Art. Over the course of his career, his work was included in shows in SoHo. He passed away in June of 1997 in Texas.
