Hans Erni 1963 Embossed Print of a Bull

A 1963 embossed print by the Swiss artist Hans Erni (1909-2015). This work features an embossed image of a bull with long horns. Displayed in a wooden frame and a cream mat, the print is signed and numbered 16/50 to the lower edge. An embossed stamp from "Pierre Tartas Paris" is located to the lower right.

Born in Lucerne, Switzerland, Erni studied at the Kunstgewerbeschule in Lucerne during the late 1920s. During the 1930s, he joined the art group Abstraction-Création in Paris where he met artists like Alexander Calder, Jean Arp, and Wassily Kandinsky. Erni worked in a variety mediums including fresco painting and he also designed numerous stamps for Switzerland and Liechtenstein. Erni's works have been exhibited throughout the world and there is a museum in Lucerne dedicated solely to his works.
