Harry Hilson Signed Abstract Batik


An abstract wax painting batik by the American artist Harry Hilson (1935-2004). This dark and broody abstract work uses dark red and black punctuated by pink, yellow, and pale blue to form its composition. Signed to the lower right, the work is displayed in a black wooden frame.

Harry Hilson was active from the 1950s-1990s. He created a variety of works, including oil paintings, ink drawings, wool tapestries, wax paintings, video art, sculpture, and more. His studios could be found in New York, California, Texas, Georgia, and Florida. Hilson and his wife, Jane, also ran a framing company called Fine Art Inc.

Condition notes:

Scratches and other minor wear to the frame. Some creasing to the fabric, also waviness present to the fabric. Small hole/run in fabric near center.
