A 1956 landscape ink painting by the American artist James Doversberger (1928- 2017). This piece features an abstracted coastal landscape with dark clouds above swirling water and gently sloping sand banks. Held in a black square frame against a white mat, this piece is initialed and dated to the lower left. The signature from the original mat is attached to the verso of the frame.
James Doversberger was born in Indiana in 1928 and after serving in the navy following high school he graduated with an MFA from the John Herron Art School in Indianapolis. He showed his work in the Hoosier Art Salon along with countless solo shows across the Midwest with some of his pieces becoming part of the collection at the Indianapolis Museum of Art.
