A Stokke lounge chair designed by the Danish designer Jens Quistgaard (1919-2008). Translated as "sticks" from Danish, the Stokke chair has tapered rosewood rods held together by a metal frame. The chair has suede upholstery.
After an early grounding in traditional handicrafts, Quistgaard began working as an industrial designer. Quistgaard was the head designer at Dansk Designs from 1954 through the 1980s. His tableware and kitchenware designs became synonymous with Scandinavian modern design and found their way into millions of homes in the USA, Europe and Japan. His work is held in museum collections such as the Museum of Modern Art, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, National Gallery of Victoria in Melbourne, among others.
