A 1979 monotype print by the American artist Matt Phillips (1928-2017). Titled Presentation, this abstract work depicts slivers of swirling color in landscape-like arrangements with white organic-shaped voids in between. Signed and dated to the lower right, the print is displayed in a red wooden frame and a cream mat. A gallery tag with title is attached verso.
Matt Phillips was an art educator, painter, and printmaker born in New York City in 1928. He received his master's degree at the University of Chicago, and studied at Stanford University, as well as the Barnes Foundation. He taught at Bard College from 1964 to 1987, in addition to teaching at Pennsylvania State University and the American College in Paris, France. There are have been two retrospectives of Phillips's works, one at the Baltimore Museum of Art in 1976 and one at the Phillips Collection in Washington D.C. in 1978.
