Michael Lax for Lightolier “Lytegem” Telescoping Desk Lamp

A Lytegem telescoping desk lamp designed by the American designer Michael Lax (1929-1999) for Lightolier. The desk lamp features a metal single-bulb globe shade attached to a telescoping arm. The lamp has a cube-shaped base with a wood grain veneer and is marked to the underside.
Michael Lax attended New York School of Music and Art, Alfred University, and studied Scandinavian modern design on a Fulbright Fellowship. Lax worked with Russel Wright and was widely known for designing many household products for Dansk and Lightolier, among others. The Lytegem lamp and enamel-coated tea kettle he designed are part of permanent Museum collections.

3.5” W x 6” H x 3.5” D (lamp at its smallest); 12.5” H (lamp at its tallest).
Condition notes:
Scuffs and scratches to metal and base. Small dents in metal shade. There is a small crack in the underside of the base. Powered on when tested.
