A 1992 watercolor painting by the American artist Peter Kitchell (born 1950). Titled Crowned Kingdom, this abstract work features vibrant leaf-shaped designs that are layered into a jungle-like environment. Unframed, the painting is signed and titled to the lower edge and is also signed, titled, and dated to the verso.
Born in Cambridge, Massachusetts, Kitchell was the son of two architects and was introduced to art-making at a very young age. He studied printmaking at the Art Institute of San Francisco and continued his education at the College of Arts and Crafts in Oakland. In the 1960s, Kitchell studied with Rolf Penn, a former student of the Bauhaus school and a student of Kandinsky and Klee. During the late 60s and early 70s, he traveled through North and Central Africa, drawing and painting the people he saw around him.
