Peter Paone “Beggar and Pet” Etching

An etching by the American artist Peter Paone (born 1936). Titled Beggar and Pet, this Surrealist style composition depicts a figure wearing a uniform with feather hat with a boar sitting next to the figure in the shadows. Signed to the lower right, the print is titled to the lower center and numbered 7/25 to the lower left. The print is displayed in a black frame and a white mat.
Born in Philadelphia, Paone studied at the Philadelphia College of Art and later went on to teach at the Pratt Institute and The National Academy of Design in New York. He also taught at The Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in Philadelphia. Paone has had over fifty one-person exhibitions and his works are part of the collections of The Philadelphia Museum of Art, The Museum of Modern Art in New York, The Victoria and Albert Museum, The British Museum, The Art Institute of Chicago, and many others.
