Peter Pelzel 2004 “Vario” Murano Art Glass Vase

A 2004 art glass vase, titled Vario, by Italian glass artist Peter Pelzel (born 1937). Made in Murano, Italy, this vase has a tapered top and is made from pale blue and transparent glass. Around the exterior of the vase there are etched designs of mussels and circles. The underside of the vase is signed “PP,” dated, and titled. This vase was part of the exhibition Vetri. Nel Mondo. Oggi (Glass. In the World. Today), which was held at the Instituto Veneto di Scienze, Lettere ed Arti (Veneto Institute of Sciences, Letters and Arts) in Venice, Italy.
Born in Murano, Pelzel came from a family of glass artists, his father being the glass artist Franz Pelzel. While studying architecture and eventually graduating from Iuav University of Venice, Pelzel worked at S.A.L.I.R., the Venetian glass studio where his father worked. He later went on to work as a designer at Vistosi and then collaborated with La Murrina. He also worked for the Treviso glass firm, Vetrelco. In the early 1907s, Pelzel opened his own architecture studio in addition to creating designs for glass studios.
