A 1940 oil on canvas painting by the British artist Raymond Coxon (1896-1997). This painting depicts organic forms and whimsical life in green, blue, red, and purple against a white background. The painting is displayed in a black wooden frame and is signed on the bottom left as well as signed and dated twice verso.
Born in Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, Coxon studied at Leeds College of Art and the Royal Academy of Art after serving in the cavalry in World War I. Coxon joined Henry Moore, Leon Underwood, and others to form the British Independent Society in 1927 and taught at Richmond School of Art. He was an official World War II artist and married the artist Edna Ginesi whom he had a joint art show with in 1985.
