Richard Loving Signed 2000 “Swim” Oil on Canvas Abstract Painting
An oil on canvas abstract painting by American artist Richard Loving (1924-2021). Signed and dated verso, this work titled Swim is a millennial pink color with abstracted swirled designs in yellow, orange, green, and blue. Bubbling has been done intentionally to portions of the paint, creating the illusion of air bubbles in water. Other portions have been painted using a splattering technique and short brushstrokes were used to create the appearance of waves. The painting is displayed in a simple white frame.
Richard Loving was born in Austria in 1924 but moved to New York City with his parents at the age of five. Loving spent most of his life in Illinois, growing his artistic legacy in Chicago. He was involved in an artistic group based out of the city called the "Allusive Abstractionists." Loving was a professor at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago until his retirement in 2004.
