Robert C. Ray Signed 1958 Abstract Watercolor Painting


A 1958 watercolor painting by the American artist Robert C. Ray (1926-2020). This abstract work uses deep jewel tones in a colorful stained glass-style arrangement. Signed and dated to the lower right, the painting is displayed in a black frame and a white mat.

Born in Elwood, Indiana, Ray attended the John Herron Art School in Indianapolis. After spending time abroad in Spain and Italy in 1953, he studied under Hans Hoffman in Provincetown, Massachusetts at Hoffman's School of Fine Art. Ray was also a writer and poet with several published books. In addition to being an artist, Ray also ran an interior decorating business in Indianapolis.

Condition notes:

Scratches and scuffs to frame. There are two tears in the paper along the upper left of the painting. Other age appropriate wear.
