A watercolor painting by Robert C. Ray (1926-2020). This vibrant still life has a burnt orange background with drapery curling around a teal pitcher and rose chalice with pearls intertwining. Signed on the bottom edge, the painting is displayed in a cream mat and brown wooden frame.
Born in Elwood, Indiana, Ray attended the John Herron Art School in Indianapolis. After spending time abroad in Spain and Italy in 1953, he studied under Hans Hoffman in Provincetown, Massachusetts at Hoffman's School of Fine Art. Ray was also a writer and poet with several published books. In addition to being an artist, Ray also ran an interior decorating business in Indianapolis.
