Robert Levin 1985 Art Glass Vase

A 1985 art glass vase by the American glass artist Robert Levin (born 1948). This colorful vase is made from striped purple glass with beige and red ovoid designer along the lower half. Two leaf and circle accents are attached to either side of the vase. The underside of the work is signed and dated.

Levin studied ceramics and sculpture at Denison University, where he graduated with his undergraduate degree in 1971. He continued his studies in ceramics at Penland School of Craft but while there, he discovered glassmaking. He went on to study glass at Southern Illinois University, where he graduated in 1974 with an MFA in glass. Levin returned to teach at Penland, as well as work as an artist-in-residence, from 1976 to 1980. His works are part of the collections of the Corning Museum of Glass; the High Museum, Atlanta; the Contemporary Glass Museum, Madrid, Spain; among others.
