Rudy O. Pozzatti 1963 "Night in Etruria" Etching

A 1963 etching by American artist Rudy O. Pozzatti (1925-2021). Titled Night in Etruria, this abstract print depicts a church in Etruria, Italy, an area Pozzatti was traveling in to study Etruscan art after receiving a Guggenheim travel grant in 1963. Displayed in a wooden frame and a cream mat, the print is signed, titled, dated, and numbered 130/230 to the lower edge. This print was commissioned by the International Graphic Arts Society.

Born in Telluride, Colorado, Pozzatti began his art studies at the University of Colorado but was drafted into the U.S. Army during World War II. During his time in the army, he served in Europe, where his combat experience included Northern France and Germany, including the Battle of the Bulge. When Pozzatti returned to the United States, he finished his undergraduate degree and went on to complete a Masters in Fine Arts from the University of Colorado. After teaching at the University of Nebraska, Pozzatti moved to Bloomington, Indiana to teach at Indiana University where he established the Printmaking Department. His works are included in the collections of numerous museums and institutions, including the Art Institute of Chicago, the Brooklyn Museum of Art, the National Gallery of Art in Washington D.C., the Museum of Modern Art in New York, and more.
