A 1977 oil on canvas painting by the Canadian-American artist Sidney Smiley (1912–2002). The painting depicts a nude figure to the left of the composition against a colorful background. The canvas is displayed in a black wooden frame and is signed and dated to the lower right.
Sidney Smiley began his career in music, attending Seattle’s Cornish School of Music, the University of Washington, and the Chicago Conservatory of Music. Smiley was an accomplished musician that played for the Radio City Music Hall Orchestra and served as concertmaster and first violinist with the Houston Symphony Orchestra. During the 1960s, Smiley switched his artistic pursuits to painting.
