A 1963 abstract linocut print by the German artist Werner Graeff (1901-1978). Titled Lisit, this print features abstract shapes in red, blue, and turquoise against a cream background. Held in a wooden frame against a white mat, this piece is signed, dated, titled, and numbered 41/100 to the lower edge.
Born in Sonnborn, Germany in 1901, Werner Graeff began his career as an artist in the late 1910s, experimenting with Impressionism and Cubism. In 1921, he studied at the Bauhaus in Weimar and joined the De Stijl group. In the 1930s, Graeff lived in Spain and then Switzerland, helping to develop one of the world's first miniature cameras. By the 1950s, he returned to painting and taught at the Folkwang School in Essen.
