A 1985 gouache painting of a Christmas tree by the American artist William Itter (1942-2025). This painting features a Christmas tree against a pastel background, completely composed of horizontal lines. Every year of their marriage, Itter made a painting of a Christmas tree for his wife, Diane Itter. Held in a wooden frame against a white mat, this piece is signed “From William To Diane” and dated to the lower edge.

William Itter was an artist, philanthropist, award-winning art educator and collector, who made an impact on hundreds of students during his 35-year long tenure at Indiana University. His wife, Diane Itter, was also a painter, as well as a textile artist. After her passing, he opened the William and Diane Itter Object Study at the Eskenazi Museum of Art, where he donated his collection of art and memorabilia.
