Alan Streets 2004 “University Place” Oil on Canvas Painting

A 2004 oil on canvas painting by the British artist Alan Russell-Cowan, also known as Alan Streets. Titled University Place, this abstract work depicts the intersection of University Place and East 11th Street in New York City. In the painting, a tangled mass buildings in gray, yellow, green, and black twist and turn against a pale blue sky. The piece is framed in a black wooden frame and is signed on the bottom right corner and titled and dated verso.

Alan Streets was born in 1969 in Roehampton, England. He is a self-taught outsider artist inspired by graffiti and Salvador Dali who has created work in England and the United States. A documentary about his life and work titled My Name is Alan and I Paint Pictures received two Academy Awards.
