A serigraph print, titled Vandedoras de Flores (Flower Sellers), after a work by Mexican artist Alfredo Ramos Martinez (1887-1946). While the original painting was done by Alfredo Ramos Martinez, his wife, Maria Sodi de Ramos Martinez, created the print. This print depicts three women walking in a row, carrying colorful flowers in baskets on their backs. In a gold tone frame against a white mat, this piece is signed in print to the lower right and left and is titled to the lower left.
Born in Monterrey, Nuevo León to a successful trading merchant, Alfredo Ramos Martinez grew up helping out with the family business. He began his career in the arts very early on, winning a prize for a portrait of the governor of Monterrey when he was just nine years old. He went on to study art at the Academia Nacional de Bellas Artes in Mexico City. He has been dubbed "the Father of Mexican Modernism" and is known for his poetic watercolor scenes of Mexican life. To this day, his work in shown in exhibits and collections around the world.
