Abbott Pattison Abstract Metal Sculpture

A metal sculpture by the American artist Abbott Pattison (1916-1999). This abstract work depicts a twisting pillar of silver metal which blooms into a lager crumpled shape at its top. The piece is attached to a black base and is signed to the lower edge.

Born in Chicago, Pattison studied at Yale where he graduated with both Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. After serving in the navy during World War II, he went on to teach at the North Shore Art League and the Art Institute of Chicago, as well as Maine's Skowhegan School of Art after he moved to Maine in 1993. Pattison's works are held in the collections of the Art Institute of Chicago, the Whitney Museum of Art in New York City, the San Francisco Museum of Art, as well as others.
