Al Blaustein “The Tangle” Etching of a Woman

An etching by the American artist Al Blaustein (1924-2004). Titled The Tangle, this abstract work depicts a seated woman woman combing her long hair. Signed to the lower right, the print is titled and numbered 8/30 to the lower left. The print is unframed.
Born in New York City, Blaustein went to high school at the High School of Music & Art and later served in the US Air Force during WWII. After returning from military service, he studied at the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture and Cooper Union. In 1958 and 1961, Blaustein received Guggenheim Fellowships and he was also a winner of the Prix de Rome. He also taught art, both at Yale University and the Pratt Institute. Blaustein's works are in the collections of the Smithsonian American Art Museum, the Art Institute of Chicago, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the National Gallery of Art.
