A 1960s Egyptian-inspired metal wall sculpture designed by American sculpture artist William Bowie (1926-1994). This metal and gold leaf sculpture features hieroglyphic-like shapes and other abstract shapes. It is unmarked.
Based in New York City, Bowie was known for his use of welded gold leaf and steel nails. However, at the beginning of his career, he worked mainly with stained glass and mosaics made of leather and cellulose sponges. In 1964, one of his sculptures was exhibited at the New York World's Fair. His work is attributed to the Brutalist movement of the mid-century period.
